Worthy Grand  Matron's Scripture: Jeremiah 29:11

 "I know the plans that I have for you; they are for good and not for evil;

to give you a future and a hope".

I believe that this fits perfectly for our Order and it's survival

Worthy Grand Patron's Scripture:  Mathew 5:16

"Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and

glorify your father which is in heaven".

Greetings Sisters and Brothers!

With the beautiful changing of the seasons, so go our lives in Eastern Star!!  We bring our official greetings as your Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron and thank you for the generous support and confidence that you have placed in us. A successful trip is only as good as its traveling companions and we happen to have the best.

This year of STAR LOVE is dedicated to you, our devoted members. Subconsciously or consciously, each of you has displayed STAR LOVE.   It could have been a card that you signed; an unexpected act of kindness that you showed; a phone call to make sure that a friend arrived home safely or a smile that you shared; they all made a difference in someone’s life.  It’s always easy to look back over the years and remember that it was an Eastern Star friend that stood out apart from the others.  You are what we’re all about!!

With that in mind, let’s get busy and help to make this “One Great Year of Giving”.  We want you to know that giving is really two-fold: one is certainly monetarily and the other is philanthropically.  This year will be filled with opportunities to support our charities through financial contributions as well as good works.  It was once said that “only through giving do we truly receive”. Better have your camera ready as well because we want you to snap those photos to display on our website: www.ohoes.org.    Stay tuned for additional information regarding these fun-filled projects.

If you want to make a difference; if you want to help others; if you want more out of your membership then this year is your year!!  Please come and join us on this trip of a lifetime and

"LET OUR   SHINE IN 2009"

So, are you ready????

In Star Love,

Peg Reiterman, Worthy Grand Matron

Ken Scott, Worthy Grand Patron

 The Scottish Thistle

For nearly 500 years, from 800 to 1270, the peoples of Scotland fiercely resisted the ravages of the Norse invaders.  Normally the Vikings attacked only by daylight but, finally, having been beaten off time after time by the valiant Scots, they decided to descend on them stealthily and in darkness.  Barefoot, in the depths of the night, they crept towards the Scottish camp where the weary defenders slept, renewing their strength for the assault they expected at dawn.  The Norsemen  might indeed have succeeded had not one of their number had the misfortune to stand upon a Thistle.  In agony he cried out and roused the Scots who promptly fell upon the foe and sent the few survivors scampering  back to their longships.  Thereafter, the humble Thistle was adopted as the emblem of Scotland with the motto “NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT” – “No-one Injuries Me With Impunity.”

The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women may belong.

Eastern Star is a social order comprised of persons with spiritual values but it is not a religion.  Its appeal rests in the true beauty of the refreshing and character-building lessons that are so sincerely portrayed in its ritualistic work.  A deep fraternal bond exists between its members.  It is the wholesome relationship of sisterly and brotherly love brought about through high principles exemplified in our lives which makes us near and dear to each other.

While this is an Order composed of people of deep spiritual convictions, it is open to all faiths, except no faith.  The personal welfare of our members is vital to all of those in the Eastern Star and it is considered a privilege to help another member whenever we can.
